Barter For Fun And Profit

My Favorite Mug in the Whole World

Well, more fun than profit, since the whole idea behind bartering is to just exchange something you have for something you want. But you all knew that, didn’t you? Anyway, I’m getting way too far afield as to the whole purpose of this post. And on top of that, I’m being way too verbose, which happens when you get too enthralled with your own writing skills and you’re trying to impress your readers with your grasp of the language.

This is turning into one of those instances where I’m falling back on an old tactic: when you don’t know what you’re talking about, dazzle your audience with BS. My real reason for this post is to show off the most awesome mug I got in a trade with Kathy, the blog mistress at The Junk Drawer Blog. I arrived with today’s mail and I’ve already enjoyed a cup of one of my favorite caffeine beverages in it. Which, incidentally, happens to be Coffee People Black Tiger coffee, prepared using the best coffee maker in the world, the Keurig B60 single cup brewing system. OK, that’s enough of a commercial…especially since I’m not getting paid for it.

Anyway, a while back, I was kind of kidding Kathy about sending me a Junk Drawer Blog mug because I was too stupid to figure out what her “What’s That? Wednesday” picture was. In reply, she suggested that maybe we could work out a barter – a print of one of my photographs for one of her mugs. Being the bargain-hunter that I am, I readily agreed to the trade and told her to pick out a photograph that tickled her fancy (doesn’t that sound kind of risque?) and she picked the photograph at the right.

This whole transaction has been a lot of fun, and is one more benefit of blogging. There are so many creative people involved in blogging and it’s fun to be able to possess some of their creative efforts. The logo on Kathy’s mug was created by combining photographs of different letters of the alphabet that she gathered with her camera and then turned into the logo. It was all inspired by a tool called Spell with Flickr. Her explanation of how she ended up with the logo can be found in this post.

And that’s the story of how I ended up with a new favorite mug. Aren’t you glad you stopped by today?
