The lament of almost every adult I have every known is that as one ages the years go by faster and faster. This year was no exception for me. It seems it was only a short time ago that I sat here composing my Christmas Eve post last year. So much has happened over the past year, that it’s no wonder that I didn’t notice the days slipping past.
In my family, there were births, deaths, weddings, relocations, reunions and even disagreements. In the world, there were wars, financial collapses, political upheavals and threats exchanged between rivals. Really not much was different at the macro level than it was at the micro level. The world scene reflected what happens at the family level.
Most of the world’s population is observing some major religious observation at this time of year. Christians celebrate Christmas tomorrow, Jews celebrated Hanukkah on December 11, and the Muslim world celebrates Ashura on December 27. Although the theology behind each of the celebrations is different, there is the same universal hope for either new or continued peace and prosperity in the days ahead. Peace on Earth, Goodwill Toward Men, would be another way to put the shared desires.
Regular visitors to this blog know how much my blogging friends mean to me, since I’ve talked about it so often. I’ve come to think of many of you as extended family. Separated by distance, my connection to the Blogosphere reflects the connections I have with my actual family. Children living in four different states, immediate family spread from coast to coast, and extended family spread all over the country, the love we feel for one another is no less than families who live in the same neighborhoods. We just have to work a little harder to stay connected.
For all of my family, both actual and virtual, I wish you all the best that this season of love and hope has to offer. May the coming New Year be filled with prosperity and peace, and may all your ventures be successful and your adventures be enjoyable. I look forward to continuing our journey together into the coming year.
