Sunday Best

I just noticed that the bricks in the church create a moire pattern at some sizes in this photograph. Not sure how to fix that in the future, but I'm not real wild about it.

Nice backdrop for the church. I see the pattern too.
  • The simplest fix I know is to simply resize the image to something closer to the display size. I've found that this effect -- unless it exists in the full size image -- is usually caused by scaling when it's rendered in the browser. This is especially prominent in very large images. This is one reason I resize everything for the web to 640x480 or smaller. I display them at just under 500 px wide (for horizontal shots) or 400 px high (vertical shots) to keep them within the boundaries of my template. The trade off is that "embiggening" doesn't "embiggen" all that much. But, by resizing and compressing them I get a lot more than I give up. It saves me server space and bandwidth, and on an image-heavy site like mine it makes the pages load faster (a big plus). And as a bonus, the images are really too low-res to make them worth stealing because any attempt to enlarge them would pretty much pixelate them beyond recognition.

SO now that I've waxed geekly on ya, what I really came to say is ... "Nice shot!". And I love the title.
