On A Carousel

Rather than posting my usual travelogue with pictures of my camping trip this past weekend, I thought I would have a little fun and do something out of the ordinary…at least for me. I decided to give Windows Live Movie Maker Beta a try and see what I came up with. The video below is the result.

A couple of words about Windows Live Movie Maker Beta: It is a really easy-to-use application that has everything you need to put together a basic video presentation of photographs and videos, which you can combine into one movie. In this case it’s all photographs, with a music track included. There isn’t a lot of variation in what you can do, but it does give some pretty good results. The biggest thing that I like is that I didn’t have to convert my RAW format photographs in JPG images first. The programs does the converting for you.

Anyway, this is a movie that shows photographs taken of Haden’s Carousel at Dan Nicholas Park in Salisbury, North Carolina. I’m especially excited about these images because Mrs. Rambler said that this is some of my best work. My ego has been significantly inflated with that comment, let me tell you! I’ll repost some of these in coming weeks as Sunday Scenery, so that you can get the full effect. Enjoy!

While I’m at it, here is my favorite photograph from the weekend:

I think the music choice was excellent. It adds to the joy of the photos!
    Nice!

I did see your comment on Facebook, Ferd, and I apologize for not acknowledging it there. And thank you. I though the music worked pretty well too. I almost used a circus calliope piece, but it reminded me of demonic clowns, so I went with the Hollies instead.
  • That looks like it's one very well-preserved carousel and the pictures are absolutely fantastic - Mrs. Rambler is right!

I recently found out that there's an old carousel down in New Haven where you can still try to catch the brass ring and I'm hoping to get down there sometime this summer for some pictures and a ride. I've always loved carousels even though they tend to make me a bit dizzy these days.

Hopefully a picture or two might come out halfway as good as yours.

It is very well preserved, Linda, probably the best I've ever seen. I've been trying to find out a little more information about it, such as the history. I know it was donated to the park by the family of Haden Holmes Hurley, a publisher of the local newspaper. He died in 1996, so I'm assuming that the family found an antique carousel and had it moved to the park. But I've no way to know for sure.
  • Awesome!
I agree with you favorite photo pick :)

    Thanks, Dawn.
  • That's a fun movie and I LOVE that photo too!

Thanks, Babs. It really is one of my favorite shots. I have to be honest, though. I did do a little work in Photoshop to blur out the background. It really works, though, to make the horse *POP* in the image.
  • Mrs. Rambler said that this is some of my best work...And She, would be RIGHT.

So, how much do you LOVE making movies??

The movie making was kind of fun. It is one more tool in my arsenal for presenting my pictures. I'm glad you enjoyed it.
  • Well it can't be any more of a pain to use than the Windoze Movie Maker that came bundled in Win XP. That has to be the most temperamental piece of software ever devised by man. I'll have to come back for the video when I get home (our network at work is sometimes hinky about video), but I absolutely love the still of the carousel horse! Beautiful work!

Actually, it's pretty easy to use. As I said in my post, my favorite feature is the fact that RAW images don't have to be converted before you can pull them into your movie. And thanks for the compliment, Mojo. Coming from you, it is especially high praise.
  • great posting.
