This week’s Sunday Scenery post is just a little different for me. Instead of the single image with no text, I’m going to share a little bit of this week’s pilgrimage to the heart of NASCAR, in the Concord and Mooresville, NC, area that my wife and I completed. Even if you’re not a fan of NASCAR, there is a lot here to hold your interest. Just the scope of most of these operations is impressive, and the pride they take in their sport is quite evident.
The best part of the trip was not captured on film. For Christmas, Mrs. Rambler bought me a three lap ride at the Jeff Gordon Driving School at 150 miles per hour. I would have loved to have taken my camera with me, but it wasn’t allowed, for obvious safety reasons. I spent a lot of time holding my breath, but it was a fantastic experience. I think I’m going to save my nickels and dimes so that next time I can take the wheel and run as many laps as I can squeeze in during the eight minutes they give to drivers.
Anyway, here are some of the highlights from our annual pilgrimage.
Race Shops
Memory Lane Museum
One of our favorite stops during the trip was Memory Lane museum, which was an amazing collection of vintage race cars, antique automobiles, and racing memorabilia. You could probably spend a couple of days exploring all the treasures that a packed into this building from floor to ceiling.
