PhotoHunt #141 – Wide

Crown Princess

Crown Princess - St. Kitts 2006

This week’s PhotoHunt theme is “Wide” and I think a cruise ship fits into that category pretty easily. This is the Crown Princess docked in St. Kitts in 2006. This was taken on one of the best vacations I have ever had the pleasure of taking. My wife and I spent 14 days exploring the Caribbean, stopping at several islands, starting with Puerto Rico, going as far south as Aruba, and then back to San Juan. I have featured some of the photographs previously on Tarheel Ramblings, and still have more to share. I was in photographer’s heaven!

• Aruba is my favorite place in the world. (Of course I haven't been to ITALY yet, so my opinion will probably change if I ever do go there!)

I've only been to Aruba on that cruise and they had a heavy, heavy rain storm as we were coming into port that flooded the streets and the stores in the business district. So we didn't get to explore very much. We did have lunch at Carlos and Charlie's...which was made infamous in the Natalie Holloway disappearance. We just didn't know it at the time.
• Two weeks in the Caribbean sounds heavenly. What a massive and impressive shot this is. I'll bet you were in photographer's heaven! Do you have others to share? We'll be waiting...

Mimi, you've been a faithful visitor for so long you've seen a lot of the photographs from that trip. I post a new one occasionally and will continue to do so. I'll try to do a better job of pointing them out to you. :D
• Great for the theme-wide. I wanna cruise on that!!! :P

napaboaniyas last blog post..PhotoHunt - Wide
• I guess that would qualify as both deep and wide!

One of these days I'll get to go on one of those things ... I hope!

I highly recommend it, Linda. And if you take the girls, you can send them to other parts of the ship and not run into them for hours. Cuts down on the stress of having teenagers. :D
• That looks like one hub and I sailed on from Florida, nice photo

Hi, Deb...we sailed on a couple of this ship's sisters out of Ft. Lauderdale a couple of years before we took the two week cruise...the Grand Princess and the Caribbean Princess. Both great ships in their own right.
• Woah, very wide indeed. Great shot -- love the way that you shot from the side rather than the more usual central position.

This is one of my favorite pictures of the ship. It really gives a good feeling for how large and majestic she is. Thanks for stopping by and leaving a note.
• eam
oh yes, cruise ships are wide! and that is a nice picture of one! i can only 'dream' about being in a cruise now- never been to one. someday i hope to experience... :-)

Eam, see my note below. As I said, I highly recommend cruising vacations. On top of everything else, it's nice to be treated like royalty for a week.
• that is a sort of grin over the ship's bow? thanks for the reminder on the danger of toxic gases released from mixing washing detergents by accident! Cheers!
• Lee
The "grin" is actually the Promenade Deck, which is a deck that has an open view and goes all the way around the ship.
• Nice take on the theme. Sure wish I was going on a cruise. Merry Christmas!
• Lee
I highly recommend cruising vacations. And they're not as expensive as you might think, especially if you're willing to take an inside cabin. You don't spend that much time there, so if you don't care about being able to see the ocean from your cabin it's possible to go on a seven day cruise for less than $600, which includes all of your food.
• OMW, that's HUGE!

Jeanettes last blog post..Wide-angles on the beach
• Lee
It was huge, Jeanette. It's kind of a good thing it was because all the walking we did to get around the ship helped us work off the effects of all the great food we had to eat. Thanks for stopping by.
• I love the perspective. Happy weekend and a happy Christmas

Thank you, Jams, I'm glad you enjoyed my contribution. I hope you have a great Christmas as well.
• sandi @ the whistlestop cafe
Well, poo. I can't right click to past my link.
I like your wide too.
• Lee
Sandi, I'm sorry for the right click thing. I was finding too many of my photographs out on the web and this was one of the easiest ways to fight back. If you're using a Windows computer, you can paste by hitting 'Ctrl V' instead of using the right click menu.
• One of the most 'wides' here. Bravo! At last somebody understands what wide means!

I thought this represented the theme pretty well myself. :D Thanks for stopping by.
• Beautiful shot! I love the perspective here.

Between the holidays and commitments and work, I'm afraid I've gone a little dark and quirky this week...

Happy Holidays to you as well. I didn't think yours was too dark at all. And thank you for your kind comments.
• Wow. That thing is mammoth.

I did Photo Hunters today, too. I hope you can visit, and leave your link.

I is a mammoth ship, Mrs. Mecomber. I was never able to get a really good long distance shot when we were in port to show how big she really is. There were a couple of times we were berthed next to smaller cruise ships and Crown Princess made them look like toys.
• That is an impressive photo, and an impressive ship. Look how small the people look next to it!
• Lee
It really was an impressive ship, Cindy. With over 3,000 souls on board, it was really a floating city. The amazing thing was you never felt crowded and there was always a "quiet corner" where you could relax.
• Great shot, and am sure a ton of memories. Merry Christmas.

• Brilliant in more ways than one.

• That's a heck of a shot! Well done!!

Thank you, June. I appreciate your comments.
• Wow,I'm sure the photos are stunning and the memories are wonderful :)

Advanced Merry Christmas to you and yours!
• Lee
Hi, Julie...yes, I'm really grateful I took so many pictures. It keeps the memories fresh.
